Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.

“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Problems and Player Response

Slot highlighted known failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period such as this with performances like these.”

He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
