Los Angeles Dodgers Hold On in Toronto to Set Up Winner-Take-All Game 7 in World Series

This year's World Series is going to a final seventh game after the Los Angeles Dodgers kept alive their repeat hopes intact Friday night with a three to one win over the Blue Jays in Game 6.

The defending champions ended Toronto’s late-game comeback with a dramatic final twin killing, stunning a home audience that had come ready to cheer the team's first title in 32 years.

Game 6 Summary

The Dodgers produced all of their scoring in the third inning. With two away, Shohei Ohtani was purposely passed before Will Smith doubled to left to score Tommy Edman. Freddie Freeman drew a walk to load the bases, and Mookie Betts came through with a two-run single to the opposite field, handing the Dodgers a 3–0 lead.

Betts’ hit snapped a postseason slump and rekindled the title holders' hopes of being the first repeat championship victors since the New York Yankees captured three straight from 1998 through 2000.

Pitching Battle

Kevin Gausman had been dominant to that point, striking out six of the first seven Dodgers he faced. He struck out 8 through three innings, tying a Fall Classic mark, but the third-inning barrage proved costly. The Toronto ace finished with eight strikeouts over six innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, meanwhile, was steady again under stress. The 27-year-old right-hander outdueled his counterpart for the second time in a week, giving up one run on five base hits over six innings with six strikeouts. He improved to four wins and one loss this playoffs with a 1.56 ERA.

The only run against him came on George Springer two-out base hit in the third, scoring Barger, who had hit a double previously in the frame. Springer’s hit provided a momentary lift in his return to the lineup after missing a pair of contests with an oblique injury.

Bullpen Effort

After that, the Los Angeles relievers took over. Rookie Wrobleski got out of a tight spot in the seventh, and another rookie Sasaki pitched into the ninth before plunking Kirk to start the inning. Barger then hit a two-base hit that got stuck under the outfield wall, obliging base runners to hold at second and third.

Glasnow, Los Angeles’ Game 3 starter, came on in a relief role and got a popout before Andrés Giménez hit a line drive to left. Enrique Hernández made the catch and threw to second to retire the runner, clinching the win and earning the pitcher his first career save.

Looking Ahead: Game 7

The best-of-seven now comes down to one game. Scherzer will take the mound for the Blue Jays, making him the sole active hurler to pitch in more than one World Series Game 7s after doing so in 2019 with the Nationals. The veteran inked a one-year deal to chase one more title and has been a vocal leader throughout this postseason.

The Los Angeles squad, aiming to become the sport's first back-to-back title winners in nearly a quarter-century, are projected to lean on their two-way star for a short outing.
