The Actress Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer fitting to speak out against the Trump government, concerned it could worsen divisive discussions and further divisions within the country.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes the Actress

In a recent interview, she reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, election after election, public figures fail to influence at all on voter decisions.”

The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on an issue that’s going to heighten conflict dividing the country apart.”

Political Evolution

The actress has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal candidates throughout her life. Raised by a right-leaning family in her home state, she cast her ballot for John McCain in 2008 before joining the Democratic party and revealing she understood during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was undermining her personal freedoms as a female citizen.

Past Statements

Several years ago, she remarked that a Trump victory could represent “a disaster” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she voiced her backing to Vice President Harris, “as I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to defend women’s health rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

The star was aligned with most of Hollywood in her rejection of Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by his election win.

“This upcoming term seems distinct,” noted Lawrence regarding Trump’s presidency. “Because he made his plans clear. We understood his record for his first term. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”

New Release

Lawrence is highlighting Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she plays a recent parent who deals with her emotional state in a remote area. At a media event for the project in Venice, the star addressed the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”

Additional Thoughts

The actress elaborated by stating that she was saddened by “the hostility in the conversations of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation now. It’s going to be normal to them that elected officials deceive.”

Lawrence attempted to refocus anger about the situation to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she said, which was interpreted as a allusion to the declaration supported by thousands of arts community members to refuse engagement with Israeli film institutions.

Personal Connections

The actor, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her role in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in Die, My Love. Even though Ramsay has rejected the narrative being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to elements of her role’s experience after the arrival of her second son, soon after shooting ended.

“I felt anxiety about my child,” she explained, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a medication called the prescription and I continued it for a short period and it really helped.”

Film Challenges

Lawrence also mentioned of the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the project while she was expecting and limited physically.

“There’s a freedom,” she said, of being forced to cast off vanity. “I mean, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
