Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community members assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in DC.
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the principal of her previous school, informed the media. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy prompted the government to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop providing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor said on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi told the program that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
